President Biden comes out swinging on the world stage
While the GOP likes to pride itself on being the party that supports Israel, a lot of that posturing is all talk, as the party has deep ties to Saudi Arabia, one of the least democratic countries in the nation and a longtime rival of Israel, who doesn’t even recognize its right to exist as a nation.
Previous Republican presidents were able to effectively convince their evangelical base of this while doing little to nothing to actively advance peace in the region, but while the current GOP has made rumblings about the current situation in Israel – they haven’t exactly managed to band together around a coherent message – it’s largely been to make baseless conspiracies about the Biden administration. They don’t actually care about the civilians who are being kidnapped or slaughtered unless they can use it as political ammo.
On Wednesday, President Biden made clear where he and the Democratic Party stand on the Hamas attack, as he sharply denounced the actions of the terrorist group while condemning a growth in anti-Semitism that this attack revealed. While pledging to defend Israel, the lone democracy in the region, and offer assistance in military aid, he was also careful to point out the difference between Palestinian citizens occupying the country and the Hamas terror organization responsible for the attacks on Israelis.
This is all happening while Republicans can’t even decide among themselves who will run their clown show – and if aid to Israel does not promptly happen because they can’t elect a House speaker, it will be very obvious to the public that it’s the Republicans’ fault.
