President Biden asks the media to do its damn job

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

In the wake of Donald Trump’s first presidential bid in 2015, the biggest loser was an American media that was prone to sensationalism – covering stories as they broke in the name of ratings.

It could be argued that this was a reason why Donald Trump saw his moment to run and decided to go with it – as he had already seen a few Republican presidential candidates launch their campaigns and then make money off of book deals and media channels. For much of 2015 and 2016, no one seriously expected the former guy to win (himself included), and they didn’t care that they gave him hours of campaign programming for free on their own networks.

After he took over the presidency, the media didn’t really improve much as they sought access and broadcast the lies of his administration in the name of appearing objective. Now, the Biden White House has decided to call them out, asking reporters to do their jobs as the House impeachment inquiry has begun to heat up.

What’s particularly unprecedented about this impeachment effort is that the GOP has embarrassed itself so far in a desperate quest to find the president guilty for something – they have no facts whatsoever on their side, while the White House has a lot of them – clearly documented. Rather than this being an issue of both sides, it needs to be weighed in terms of who has the facts, and like with just about everything else, Republicans never do.
