Pete Hegseth just made it even worse for himself

Someone once said that if you’re in a hole, stop digging. It’s such good advice that the quote has since been attributed to too many public figures to count. But it sure seems like Donald Trump’s top handpicked people have somehow gone their entire lives without hearing that quote. When it comes to this Signal scandal, Trump and his people just keep digging a deeper hole.
Pete Hegseth in particular has now completely blown it three times. First he suggested that the Atlantic reporter was making the whole thing up. Then after others in the Trump regime admitted the story was true, Hegseth claimed that there was no classified intel involved in the Signal chat. This prompted the Atlantic reporter to release the parts of the chat that clearly contained classified information. So now Hegseth has decided to out-stupid himself yet again.
Hegseth is now insisting that even if the story is true, and even if there was classified intel involved, they weren’t “war plans” and were instead merely “attack plans.” Because that’s better. Hegseth apparently thinks he’s helping his case by admitting that he texted secret classified US military attack plans to a reporter before they were carried out. That’s right, Hegseth is now clinging to the definition of the word “war” in a last ditch feeble attempt at saving himself.
Pete Hegseth is far from the only person who’s actively making this scandal worse for himself. Mike Waltz has suggested that the Atlantic reporter somehow hacked his way into the chat. Tulsi Gabbard appeared to get caught lying to Congress, only to later try to cover for it by claiming she couldn’t recall what was going on. But Hegseth is sure taking the cake. Someone is going down for this, and Hegseth seems to be adamant about making sure that it’s him.
