Pete Hegseth just dug himself an even deeper hole

You know, I’ve been thinking. I can’t imagine any administration handling Signal-Gate worse than this one. The whole thing continues to fall apart for all of them, and none of these people—not Tulsi, not Pete—are handling things in any manner that even approaches competence.
Pete Hegseth appears, especially, appears to be having a hard time. And if you haven’t had the pleasure of seeing Mr. Hegseth’s responses to Signal-Gate, I’ve got news for you. The man appears to be losing his mind.
Pete has had the wrong responses since this scandal started (doesn’t it seem like it began YEARS ago, and not a few short DAYS ago?). He has refused to accept any responsibility, and his behavior has descended into pure paranoia.
Hegseth’s modus operandi appears to be attacking the reporter who was accidentally invited into this chat. Hegseth has been unrelenting in his attacks, and appears utterly impervious to the people—some of them MAGA—who are telling him to cool it.
He continues, with sharp anger in his voice, to insist that nothing in the chat was classified even though we know that it was. He appears very upset at Jeff Goldberg, who broke the story. But Hegseth is making himself a laughing stock by being reactive rather than proactive.
I cannot even begin to count the number of people openly making fun of him. And yes, this includes some people on the red team. The reason for the laughter is that Hegseth is supposed to be a leader, and right now, he’s acting more like a very guilty and defensive liar.
Look — when someone is on defense, they’re losing. We know that. Hegseth has not gotten off defense. All you have to do is observe the man, and listen to him for five minutes, and you can hear and see how petty and paranoid he’s become.
And since he is leading, of all things, OUR MILITARY, it is important for Pete to show leadership. As it is, what he’s showing is guilt — one does not become THAT defensive if one is innocent.
“Jeff Goldberg has never seen a war plan or an attack plan in his life.” That’s Pete going off on the reporter. I’ll tell you something. Trump could nip this in the bud by firing Hegseth in a minute.
But he may not. Trump, mind hiding NOT in plain sight, has an Achilles heel. That Achilles Heel is that he wants to own the libs rather than do what is right for our country. But if he continues to keep Pete around, and Pete continues to engage in such maladaptive behavior, it is the Trump team who is getting owned — and owned — and owned.
Respect is like a shining piece of gold; it is invaluable and a treasure. But it must be earned. How can our military LOOK upon this man with respect when he doesn’t even respect the country enough to tell its inhabitants the truth?
