It’s time for Paul Ryan and Mitch McConnell to panic

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

Various prominent Republicans in Congress have spent the past fourteen months making occasional isolated efforts at publicly pushing back against Donald Trump’s deranged behavior, illegal scheming, and criminal scandals. The GOP response to Trump has never been anywhere close to enough. But what’s stood out has been that it’s always come from other prominent Republicans in Congress, and never from the two guys in charge. That’s been incredibly suspicious. Now it’s suddenly time for Paul Ryan and Mitch McConnell to panic.

Nearly a year ago, the media began piecing together that the Donald Trump campaign and the Russian government held meetings at the Republican National Convention for the purpose of changing the Republican Party platform to a pro-Russia stance. Palmer Report pointed out at the time that once this story finally came home to roost, the party leaders were going to have a heck of a time convincing anyone that they somehow didn’t know the real reason their party platform was altered in this fashion. The story faded from the headlines, but now it turns out Robert Mueller has been on the case the entire time.

Mueller has been interviewing people about the change to the party platform, according to a new report from Reuters. We’ve learned that Mueller always finds someone involved with any given aspect of the Trump-Russia scandal who’s willing to cooperate with him. All Mueller has to do is to find one witness who can confirm that Paul Ryan and Mitch McConnell knew what was going on with their party’s platform, and he’s got them nailed.

We’ve also seen that Robert Mueller generally only starts interviewing the full load of witnesses to any given incident after he’s already found a cooperating witness to give him the real story first. This suggests that Mueller already has the real story about what went down with Donald Trump, the Russians, and the Republican Party during the convention. It’s difficult to imagine that the Republican leader in the House and the Republican leader in the Senate somehow didn’t know about it all. It’s time for the two of them to panic.
