Donald Trump launches berserk attack on Paul Ryan

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

Six days to go before an election that’ll essentially decide whether or not he ends up in prison, and Donald Trump is clearly not focused on the task at hand. Instead of doing his best to try to help his Republican Party retain power so it can continue protecting him from his criminal scandals, Trump has decided that his top priority is attacking Republican Speaker of the House Paul Ryan. No, really.

The trouble began yesterday when Donald Trump announced that he could eliminate a portion of the Fourteenth Amendment simply by signing an executive order. This was largely met with eye rolling and sarcastic laughter, because it would have roughly the same legal weight as if he signed an executive order striking down the law of gravity. In a rare move revealing a small fraction of a spine, Paul Ryan pointed out that nothing magically works the way Trump was claiming.

Donald Trump wasn’t exactly thrilled at the specter of one of his own party’s leaders publicly throwing a dose of reality at him. So this afternoon Trump posted this rather berserk tweet: “Paul Ryan should be focusing on holding the Majority rather than giving his opinions on Birthright Citizenship, something he knows nothing about! Our new Republican Majority will work on this, Closing the Immigration Loopholes and Securing our Border!”

Meanwhile back in the real world, Paul Ryan is retiring, and – if Democrats turn out to vote in the expected numbers – the next Speaker of the House is likely to be a Democrat. If Trump is sick of having to deal with Ryan, wait until he gets a load of Speaker Nancy Pelosi. But again, that’s only if the Resistance shows up and votes on Tuesday.
