Donald Trump’s latest meltdown sets off panic in the White House
Yesterday, Palmer Report pointed out that President Obama was playing Donald Trump like a fiddle by goading him into recklessly obsessing over him. Sure enough, this morning Trump was so desperate to prove he’s better than Obama, he ended up posting a tweet that was such a laugh-out-loud lie, it set off a panicked response within his White House which is still playing out.
Donald Trump went on a tirade this morning about how great the economy supposedly is, and how he’s more responsible for it than President Obama is. The trouble: he used fake numbers. For instance, Trump posted this laughably false statement: “The GDP Rate (4.2%) is higher than the Unemployment Rate (3.9%) for the first time in over 100 years!” This set off a torrent of pushback from the media and the public. By the time Sarah Huckabee Sanders’ press briefing rolled around in the early afternoon, panic was setting in.
Trump’s Chairman of the Council of Economic Advisers, Kevin Hassett, ended up taking the podium so he could claim it was his fault that Trump had tweeted the fake economic numbers. Then Trump lackey Matt Schlapp appeared on MSNBC, where he tried to make the straight-faced argument that Trump never lies, even as host Katy Tur ripped him to pieces for it.
But no amount of lying, blame-taking, or spin can cover for the fact that Donald Trump is spiraling out of control when it comes to his newly heightened obsession with taking credit for President Obama’s accomplishments. Take, for instance, this Trump tweet from earlier today: “The Economy is soooo good, perhaps the best in our country’s history (remember, it’s the economy stupid!), that the Democrats are flailing & lying like CRAZY! Phony books, articles and T.V. “hits” like no other pol has had to endure-and they are losing big. Very dishonest people!” These are not the words of a mentally stable individual.
