Now that Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s proposed interview questions for Donald Trump have leaked, we know that Mueller is targeting Trump for a whole lot more than obstruction of justice. The questions aim to tie Trump to various aspects of his campaign’s collusion and treasonous plotting with Russia. The questions also tip off who else is at the top of Mueller’s you-know-what list.

Robert Mueller has at least forty-eight questions for Donald Trump, but one of them stands out in particular: “What did you know about communication between Roger Stone, his associates, Julian Assange or WikiLeaks?” During the course of the day we’ve figured out that this probably isn’t the actual wording of the questions, and is instead a reconstruction of the questions by Trump’s team. But there’s no mistaking what Mueller is getting at there.

For the past two months we’ve seen one mainstream media report after another about how Mueller has been rounding up cooperating witnesses to testify against Roger Stone. First it was Sam Nunberg. Then it was Ted Malloch. Mueller may also have the cooperation of Randy Credico. What these people all have in common is that they’re Stone’s (in some cases former) friends, and can testify about what Stone may have confessed to them privately. This new leak confirms that Mueller’s reason for targeting Stone really is what we’ve long thought it was: Stone’s coordination with the Russian assets who stole and leaked the private data of Trump’s election opponents.

Cooperating witnesses are generally the most surefire way to nail someone. If the witnesses lined up by Robert Mueller are all testifying that Roger Stone confessed to them that he was plotting with Russian assets to alter the outcome of the election, then Stone is essentially nailed. It’s time for him to cut that plea deal against Donald Trump, whether he wants to or not.
