Donald Trump packs it in
If you were the historically unpopular President of the United States, and the economy was on the verge of collapse even as your scandals were worsening, and your reelection poll numbers were starting to read like a cruel punchline, what would you be doing to try to turn things around?
Whatever your answer, it probably wouldn’t involve lying in bed and watching racist lunatic Lou Dobbs on Fox News, while regurgitating it all in one incoherent tweet after another. Yet that’s precisely how Donald Trump has been spending this evening, at the end of one of the ugliest days he’s had in awhile.
The specific content of Trump’s tweets tonight is less important than their combined sheer absurdity. There was the bizarre baseless declaration that “we have a nation that is disgusted with the FBI.” Really? Who feels this way? Where? Nowhere, outside of Trump’s increasingly feeble delusions. Trump also insisted that the left hates America, that he was illegally spied on, and other literally insane notions.
The bottom line is that Donald Trump isn’t even trying to find a way to win. He seems to have grasped on some level that he’s on a path to losing everything, and so he’s clinging more tightly to his delusional fantasies than ever. This is a guy who’s packed it in, whether he consciously realizes it or not.
