Donald Trump’s disastrous Oval Office speech sends overnight stock market trading off a cliff

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

The stock market had a terrible day today, with the Dow Jones finishing down nearly 1500 points for the day. But the aftermarket trading seemed to be stable, leaving some hope that tomorrow might not be yet another bloodbath. Then Donald Trump decided to open his mouth.

Donald Trump gave an Oval Office address tonight which saw him sounding confused, out of breath, and unhealthy. He announced very little, beyond a new flight ban from Europe to the United States, which no one seems to think will help any, and which inexplicably exempts the UK. The whole thing was a sad joke, and investors certainly saw it that way.

In the half hour since Donald Trump’s speech, the Dow Futures have immediately gone off a cliff, and are now down by more than six hundred points. We’ll see where the trading goes from here as the night goes on. But it’s clear that Wall Street thinks Trump is blowing this, and is preparing for the devastating economic results of Trump’s ongoing inept mishandling of this virus.
