Out of sight

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

Another day, another outrageous lie from former “president” Donald Trump. Now, he claims that the FBI “planted” classified documents in the boxes they took after they took them. Only Trump, his allies, and his supporters would believe such nonsense. As much crime as we have in the U.S. and around the world, it is doubtful that our agencies have time to sit around and plot against Donald Trump. All Trump and his allies do is lie. Look at Jim Jordan, who sat on State of the Union Sunday and told Dana Bash that Trump had declassified the records he took. Now that the Trump tapes-where he admits that he didn’t declassify anything-have surfaced, Jordan is disputing Trump’s statement. What? It’s hard to keep up with these professional liars. It is much more interesting and informative to listen to what others think of the entire mess.

Even as Trump declares his (false) innocence, the evidence is strong. Some of that evidence has been provided by those closest to Trump, including former attorney Evan Corcoran. The Washington Post identified Corcoran as “Attorney 1,” who is mentioned throughout several parts of the indictment. According to WaPo, this part of the indictment comes directly from Corcoran’s notes. Not only did Trump use Corcoran to obstruct the return of classified documents, but the indictment further indicates that Trump told Corcoran to “remove any problematic documents” prior to turning over a folder. Corcoran’s testimony, in essence, told prosecutors that Trump “was determined to keep the boxes even though he knew he had received a grand jury subpoena.”

Even as Republicans claim Trump’s indictment is politically motivated, Trump’s former national security adviser John Bolton appeared on CNN to contradict these claims. Bolton called the indictment a “rifle shot” to Trump’s reelection plans. Bolton opined that, based on what is contained in the indictment: “This is a devastating indictment. …Not only is it powerful, it’s very narrowly tailored. They didn’t throw everything against the wall to see what would stick. This really is a rifle shot, and I think it should be the end of Donald Trump’s political career.” Let’s hope John Bolton is right. The best thing that could happen to this country is for Donald Trump to go away-permanently. Bolton also said that he does not buy into other Republicans’ argument that Trump’s indictment “is far worse for the country than what actually happened here.” In response, Bolton said: “I don’t buy that argument at all.” Neither does anyone else; it is an argument based on nothing.

Contrary to Republican opinion, the world would be a much better place without Donald Trump and his divisive ways. He can go to jail, go to hell, or go anywhere if he stays far away from the Oval Office. We do not need crooks in the White House, and we certainly don’t need the return of a crook who we all know has any and everything but the country’s best interests at heart. Trump’s main interest always has been and always will be Trump. Hopefully, this indictment and trial will remove him from our sight.
