Ouch, Mick Mulvaney!

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

For the past few days we’ve all been wondering if Donald Trump’s Acting White House Chief of Staff Mick Mulvaney still had a job. Between his confession that Trump was guilty in the Ukraine scandal, and his since-canceled G7 Doral stunt, Mulvaney has all but painted the word “scapegoat” on his forehand. Today, in front of the cameras, Trump used his cabinet meeting to completely humiliate Mulvaney.

While he was ranting maniacally about everyone from Adam Schiff to President Obama today, Donald Trump answered a number of questions from reporters. One of the questions Trump received was whether Mick Mulvaney still had a job – but Trump refused to answer that one. Although there has been some confusion as to whether Mulvaney was in the room at the time, NPR’s Tamara Keith has confirmed that he in fact was.

This means that Mick Mulvaney had to sit there a few feet away while Donald Trump answered a bunch of other questions, but refused to answer a question about whether Mulvaney still had a job. The fact that Mulvaney was in the cabinet meeting at all tells us that, yes, as of this moment, he’s still the Acting Chief of Staff.

But it sure sounds like Donald Trump has either decided to fire Mick Mulvaney as soon as he can find a replacement, or Trump hasn’t yet made up his mind about whether to fire Mulvaney. That had to suck for Mulvaney, who was just sitting there like a lame duck. Of course Mulvaney deserves this. He’s as guilty as anyone in Trump’s Ukraine criminal scandal, and he’s also the prick who tried to get rid of Meals on Wheels.
