Official “House Republicans” Twitter account posts potentially incriminating tweet during 1/6 hearing, deletes it

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

After the official “House Republicans” Twitter account tweeted and then deleted “This is all heresy” instead of “hearsay” during tonight’s January 6th public hearing, I quipped that it might have been the dumbest tweet of all time. Someone else quipped in response that the night was still young. It turns out they were right.

While former Trump White House aide Sarah Matthews was preparing to give live testimony tonight, the “House Republicans” account tweeted that she was “Just another liar and pawn in Pelosi’s witch-hunt.” After a whole lot of people pointed out that this read like witness intimidation, the tweet was deleted. Matthews could have potentially seen the tweet during a break in the hearings, underscoring its potentially incriminating nature, whether Matthews did end up seeing it before her testimony or not.

It’s not clear who was in control of the “House Republicans” Twitter account. Nominally, Kevin McCarthy is the leader of the House Republican caucus, and would therefore have control over that Twitter account if he wants it. But he’s a timid coward. CNN is reporting that the Twitter account is run by House Republican Elise Stefanik’s office.
