Of course that’s why Donald Trump did it

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

One way or another, Donald Trump’s pipe dream of reopening the country by Easter was never going to happen. After all, Trump wasn’t the one who implemented any of the lockdowns or shutdowns to begin with, so there was nothing for him to reopen. But on Monday, Trump admitted during his disastrous press conference that Easter was indeed not happening.

So what convinced Donald Trump to acknowledge that America was going to have to remain shut down for another month? Was it the rising death toll? No. Was it the overloaded hospitals with nurses wearing trash bags? No. It turns out Trump’s handlers managed to convince him to cave by showing him poll numbers.

That’s right, poll numbers. The New York Times is reporting that Trump’s advisers showed him numbers that made clear most Americans want to leave the country shut down, because they’re not okay with the staggering death toll that would result from reopening the country by Easter.

So we’ve got a “President” who cares less about the lives of Americans than Americans do. That’s profoundly wrong, and yet with this guy, not at all surprising.
