Donald Trump goes nuts about Robert Mueller

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

Earlier this evening, Donald Trump had a meltdown in response to the news that Roger Stone was partially confessing to his role in the Trump-Russia scandal, which was a clear sign that Stone knows he’s about to be indicted and arrested. Trump took out his frustration on the usual targets: the FBI and the Democrats. But as the evening has gone on, Trump’s demented ranting has taken a turn from standard fare to a notably rare topic for him: Special Counsel Robert Mueller.

Donald Trump has routinely and falsely claimed on Twitter that Robert Mueller’s team is made up of thirteen Democrats; not only is this untrue, Mueller himself is a registered Republican. But Trump has generally tried to avoid criticizing Mueller himself, presumably because he’s just that afraid of him. Tonight was different.

After Trump finished having a meltdown about the FBI and its various agents and officials, he tweeted this: “Also remember that they all worked for Slippery James Comey and that Comey is best friends with Robert Mueller. A really sick deal, isn’t it?” So now in Trump’s deluded mind, Comey and Mueller have both pursued criminal investigations into him simply because they’re friends, and not because it’s their job to investigate people when there’s evidence of a crime.

Of course the words that Donald Trump is hurling at Robert Mueller tonight are still pretty timid in comparison to the kinds of raving insults he hurls at everyone else who has tried to investigate his crimes. But it’s notable that Trump is lying awake far past his bedtime tonight, and he’s so rattled by the Roger Stone revelations, he’s taking his most direct shot at Mueller to date. Trump appears to understand, in his own demented way, that he’s toast. Contribute to Palmer Report
