Now we’re all finally on the same page

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

Major media reports dating back to early 2022 have made fairly clear that the DOJ was criminally investigating Donald Trump all along, and that it was doing so on multiple fronts. There have been several months worth of reports about Trump world people testifying to grand juries. And the DOJ started carrying out search and seizure warrants earlier this summer. So it wasn’t a surprise when the media finally “confirmed” several weeks ago that the DOJ was investigating Trump. Nor was it particularly surprising last night when the DOJ had the FBI carry out a search and seizure warrant at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago home. As remarkable as this has all been, it was all predictable and inevitable. I know, because I predicted that it was inevitable.

But this isn’t about me. When I get a long term prediction correct, it’s not because I have some unique or special insight. It’s because when the publicly available evidence overwhelmingly points to things heading in a certain direction, I’m not afraid to say so, even if the rest of the industry is still refusing to acknowledge anything beyond what might happen more than 24 hours into the future. The good news is that the mainstream media and pundit class is now indeed finally acknowledging that Trump is on a path to prison, not reelection.

What I do have issue with is the mainstream media’s incessant framing of this raid as “unprecedented” and “somber.” It is neither of these things. Trump’s presidency was unprecedented. He was a career criminal who corruptly hijacked the presidency so he could use it to commit even more crimes, and then after he lost he committed even more crimes in a failed effort to remain in office. Nothing about that was ever normal. Trump was never a legitimate president. He never once acted like one. His crime spree in office was based on the premise that he’d be able to steal a second term and then remain in office forever. Once he was booted from office, things like this FBI raid of his home were inevitable, not some shocking unprecedented bombshell. For months now, it was clear that this kind of raid would very likely happen at some point. The only uncertainty was with the timing.

Nor is this in any way somber. It’s not sad that the FBI is having to raid the former President’s home. It’s sad that this career criminal psychopath was ever “President” to begin with. It’s fantastic, great, cathartic, happy news that this piece of filth is now finally being held criminally accountable. It’s justice. It’s not something to lament over. If you love American democracy, you should be popping champagne right now. And you shouldn’t be particularly surprised that this raid happened, because it’s the direction that all the indicators have been pointing all year. It would have been surprising if this kind of raid hadn’t happened. The media should have been acknowledging all of this all year. Now that the media is finally caught up, let’s hope the media does a better job of covering Trump’s downfall going forward.
