Now these Republican idiots are trying to make Elon Musk the Speaker of the House

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand what a dark era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. Advertising networks can't be counted on. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight, because someone has to.

Some extremist House Republicans (including Marjorie Taylor Greene) are now publicly pushing for Elon Musk to become Speaker of the House. I doubt there are the votes to make it happen, given that Mike Johnson has his loyalists within his party.

But if these idiots want to make the push for Musk, that’s fine. It’ll just further weaken Mike Johnson on his way to becoming Speaker, and it’ll then make it harder for the Republican House to pass any of Trump’s agenda. Lack of any unifying leadership is how a majority caucus falls apart.

Yes, Musk is legally eligible to be Speaker of the House (you don’t technically have to be a House member). But because he’s not a natural born citizen, he would be skipped over in the presidential line of succession. It’s yet another reason why this isn’t practical and seemingly won’t happen. But let them try if they want. Any infighting or division within the Republican ranks – especially this early on – is bad for them and good for us.

The best case scenario is that the Musk push makes it impossible for the Republicans to elect any Speaker, and the Democrats end up with the Speakership. But this seems unlikely, if only because the Republicans would rather settle for Johnson in the end than forfeit the speakership completely (I think). We’ll see.
