November 1st is for all the marbles

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

November 1. Remember that date. And mark your calendars. Why? Because it is the day that the Supreme Court will hear oral arguments on the vile Texas abortion law. This is the date set by the Supreme Court. They have at last agreed on a hearing to actually hear the specifics of the case. Unfortunately, the law still stands for now. The court rejected the Biden administration’s request for a temporary blocking of the law. The court has left it in place for now.

However, the court did expedite the case, and November 1 is only a short time away. The focus of the court will be on the specifics of how the law was crafted. Anyone who presumes to know how the court will rule is merely guessing at this point. The fact is we do not know what will happen. It could be that the conservative majority pulls together as they did before, and nothing changes from their perspective.

But it also could be that one or two right wing Justices side with us. We just do not know. They’re certainly not giving anything away at this point. It is also important to remember that just a month AFTER this case is heard, the court is scheduled to hear a Mississippi argument on a law that would ban abortions after 15 weeks.

What will the court do? Honestly, I’ve no idea. I would say the odds are 50/50 at this point. I believe there is some hope due to the horrible press the court has received, and they are expediting the case, which gives it at least a sense of urgency that is welcomed. But that still does not mean they will not disappoint us again. So, for now, we wait. The country will be watching on November 1.
