No wonder Rod Rosenstein resigned yesterday

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

There had been buzz in the media for months about Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein eventually resigning, and much of that buzz pointed to Rosenstein departing after the Mueller report was released. Rosenstein spent the past week publicly kissing up to Donald Trump, leading to questions about whether he might be staying after all. Then yesterday he suddenly turned in his resignation letter. Now it’s clear why.

When Rosenstein submitted his resignation letter yesterday, Palmer Report pointed out that this was coming just 48 hours before new Attorney General William Barr was scheduled to attend the first of his two congressional hearings, and we wondered about the timing. Why would Rosenstein decide to get his resignation on record just before Barr was hauled in to explain how he and Rosenstein handled the release of the Mueller report?

Now comes tonight’s bombshell revelation that a month ago, Robert Mueller wrote a letter to William Barr, accusing him of completely misrepresenting the Mueller report in his four page “summary.” It’s impossible to imagine that Rod Rosenstein wouldn’t have been aware of this letter. Considering the manner in which major newspapers operate, sometime in the past couple days, the New York Times likely would have asked Rosenstein’s office if he wanted to provide comment for the story about Mueller’s letter. So Rosenstein learned that this bombshell was about to drop, and then he immediately turned in his resignation letter.

This explains quite a bit. William Barr is now certainly going to be impeached for this, and he’ll be lucky if he doesn’t get criminally indicted for obstruction of justice once Donald Trump is gone. Naturally, Rod Rosenstein would want to announce his divorce from Barr’s DOJ before this story hit the newswire. It still doesn’t explain why Rosenstein used his resignation letter to publicly marry himself to Donald Trump’s reputation. There’s clearly another shoe about to drop in this worsening scandal.
