Donald Trump has no idea what he’s doing

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

Donald Trump just cannot seem to make up his mind about stimulus negotiations. First, it was ‘stop negotiating until I win.’ By the next morning, he was reconsidering his ill-advised tweet. What gives? CNN gives us some insight and once again shows us that Trump knows very little about how things work.

According to CNN Business, after Trump’s tweet, the Dow went down. When Trump saw that, he made an immediate about face. Trump’s initial tweet signaled to investors that withholding the stimulus will hurt the economy even more than it has already been hurt. Trump cannot even be bothered to listen to the man he chose to lead the Federal Reserve, Jerome Powell, who is vocal about the risks involved in withholding a stimulus package. Powell, as quoted by CNN Business, said, “Over time, household insolvencies and business bankruptcies would rise, harming the productive capacity of the economy and holding back wage growth.” Powell believes that any risk in spending too much far outweighs what will happen if the government spends nothing.

Without aid, airlines are set to cut thousands of jobs. Interestingly, investors are hoping for a Democratic sweep because they assume a quick stimulus approval in 2021 that will boost the economy. Goldman Sachs believes this will lead to a quicker recovery and would thwart conservative budget watchers, who, as we have learned in recent years, are not all that conservative. Of course, no one knows for sure how any of this is going to play out, least of all Donald Trump. What is foremost in Trump’s mind is Trump. Everything he does is either of benefit to him or does not impact him. People who continue to support him apparently do not or will not see that he is doing nothing for them or any of the rest of us for that matter.

But Republicans tend to be one-trick ponies. Their advantage is that many who support them are not very bright. Take one of Trump’s ads for example. An obviously blue-collar worker says that Trump will grow the economy while Biden will “burn it down.” Every time I see it, I think to myself, “Dude. You’re not making $400,000 or more, so you have no need to fear Biden’s tax increase.” Code words and sound bites is how Republicans operate, and apparently, their supporters are too dense to see beyond them. It seems, however, that some of them are starting to wake up if the polls are any indication.

The Republican majority in the Senate is seemingly in danger of disappearing come November 3rd. CNN reported that the map is now tilting strongly toward Democrats. Inside Elections with Nathan L. Gonzales has changed three Republican seats to “lean Democrat:” Maine, North Carolina, and South Carolina. Georgia is not looking bad either with Reverent Raphael Warnock switching leads with Kelly Loeffler. Martha McSally, who was never elected to begin with, debated Mark Kelly and did more question dodging than answering. That is because no Republican has a logical explanation for standing with Trump. It remains to be seen how all this will turn out in November, but it is at least on the right track.
