Donald Trump has no idea what’s about to hit him
Donald Trump only seems to have a small handful of skills in life. It’s just that of the few skills he does have, most of them tend to serve him really well when it comes to succeeding as a con man. However, one of those skills – the ability to narcissistically rationalize that everything is okay for him even when it’s decidedly not okay for him – is in the process of failing him rather badly.
Yesterday we learned that Donald Trump’s former campaign chairman Paul Manafort is likely headed to prison for twenty to twenty-five years, which is a de facto life sentence. Manafort is roughly Trump’s age, his crimes are roughly similar to Trump’s crimes, and some of the cooperating witnesses who helped convict Manafort are also cooperating witnesses against Trump. Manafort’s life is over, and yet Trump doesn’t seem to understand that a straight line can be drawn from Manafort’s fate to his own. But that’s just the half of it.
We also learned yesterday that Special Counsel Robert Mueller has proof that Donald Trump’s longtime close personal and political adviser Roger Stone was criminally conspiring with Russian government hackers during the 2016 election, with regard to obtaining and releasing documents stolen from the Democratic Party. There have been signs for weeks that this was coming. It proves that the Trump campaign treasonously conspired with the Kremlin to alter the outcome of the election, and it probably means that Mueller also has proof that Trump himself was in on it.
So what is Donald Trump doing right now, even as it’s being revealed that Roger Stone is definitely going to die in prison, and that Trump will probably end up doing the same? He’s out golfing in Florida. If Trump had the ability to accurately understand what the events of the past twenty-four hours mean for his (total lack of a) future, he’d either be huddled with his lawyers, or hiding in a fetal position. Instead he seems to think everything will be just fine. He has no idea what’s about to hit him.
