Nikki Haley is a lying piece of shit and it’s time for the media to say so
When Nikki Haley abruptly and suspiciously announced her resignation from the Donald Trump regime last year, it came one day after she’d been caught up in an ethics scandal, and it came as the Jamal Khashoggi scandal was exploding. But the mainstream media ignored all of that and instead largely tried to spin Haley’s resignation as some kind of genius strategy that was going to set her up to run for President someday.
At the time, it couldn’t have been any more clear that the media was desperate for Nikki Haley to end up running for President. The reason is obvious enough. Haley is a Republican woman. She’d be running to be the nominee of a party that doesn’t believe in women’s rights. If she got the nomination, it would set up a surreal scenario in which most women voters would be rooting against her. The whole thing would be phenomenally ugly – and it would be amazing for cable news ratings. The media wasn’t about to play up Haley’s scandals and toxicity – thus potentially chasing her out of politics – before it could cash in on the ratings bonanza of her eventual presidential run.
This past week Nikki Haley has reinserted herself into the political discourse by dishonestly insisting that Donald Trump did nothing impeachable in his Ukraine extortion scandal, and by disingenuously accusing the likes of Rex Tillerson of having plotted against Trump. This morning she took things to a new low by appearing on NBC News and trying to play up the fake Biden scandal. This isn’t just dishonest, it’s borderline treasonous on her part.
Mercifully, NBC interviewer Savannah Guthrie – who is best known for giving softball interviews to horrible people – decided to push back against Nikki Haley’s lies this morning. It’s the first time we’ve seen the mainstream media apply any level of scrutiny to Haley’s general horribleness. The trouble is, Haley isn’t done with her antics. Right now she’s trying to promote her new dishonestly pro-Trump book. It’s also fairly clear that she’s trying to lure Trump into replacing Mike Pence with her on the 2020 ticket. And if Trump is ousted before 2020, she sees herself stepping in as the pro-Trump candidate for President.
Nikki Haley only still exists in politics because the media has been almost uniformly softballing her all along. She’s always been bad for the Republican Party and she’s always been bad for America, but she’s good for ratings, so the media keeps giving her oxygen. Now she’s going all-in for a traitor like Donald Trump because it’s the only play she has left. Her antics are only going to get more grotesque. It’s time for the media to start acknowledging that she’s a lying piece of shit who doesn’t belong on the political stage.
