Newt Gingrich just got dragged into the fray
It’s unbelievable. Just when one thinks it’s safe to venture back into the blissfully Newt-free waters, the Gingrich shark surfaces again. Newt Gingrich just won’t go away. It seems all political roads always lead back to him, especially if these roads concern something nasty. In a surprise move, the January 6 committee is seeking testimony from Gingrich.
I admit he was not on my radar. (Perhaps I blocked him out?) But old Newt always seems to be in the thick of trouble. The committee has sent Newt a letter seeking his voluntary cooperation. They want to talk to him about his role in January 6. This is getting good.
What the committee is looking for is an explanation about communications Gingrich had with Trump and some of his senior advisors. Reportedly the committee has information that Gingrich provided input on false advertising about the 2020 presidential election.
What will Newt do? I have no idea. But if he gets any ideas about non-compliance, he could always look to Steve Bannon as a road map of what happens to those who do not comply. Gingrich is someone I believe is, like Trump, wholly without a conscience, so it should not be a surprise if he played any tole in the sordid events of January 6.
Gingrich has also become irrelevant. And for people like him, that is what they despise the most. So it could be a reason Gingrich helped Trump if indeed he did. Remember — we knew the committee would have surprises up its sleeve. We knew we did not know everything — not even close.
It will not surprise me if even more people we have not thought of receive a letter from the January 6 committee. Who’s next? Nobody knows, but things are starting to get really interesting and round and round the letters and subpoenas go.
