New York Attorney General Letitia James just made it abundantly clear that she’s targeting Ivanka Trump
In her court filings last month, New York Attorney General Letitia James asserted that she has significant evidence that Donald Trump, Ivanka Trump, and Donald Trump Jr. were involved in falsifying asset valuations in relation to mortgages, taxes, and insurance. Given that those would be felonies if proven true, and James also has a criminal probe into the Trump family, it sent a clear signal that the Trump family is looking at prison. Now James is sending an even more clear signal that Ivanka Trump is in trouble.
It’s been firmly established that James is targeting potential financial fraud at various Trump properties in New York State, which makes sense given that James is the New York Attorney General. But now the Washington Post says James has also subpoenaed government records showing how the General Services Administration awarded Donald Trump a lease for his Washington DC hotel.
This is a big deal because it shows just how far James is willing to go – far outside of New York State – to make these fraud allegations against Trump stick. She still has jurisdiction because the Trump Organization is based out of New York, meaning all of its deals are within her jurisdiction. Notably, the Washington Post says that Ivanka Trump is the one who was in charge of the DC hotel project, and that she’s the one who presented the allegedly fraudulent claims about the Trump Organization’s financial situation.
At this point it’s abundantly clear that Letitia James is aggressively targeting Ivanka Trump in particular. The question is why. Is James trying to pressure Ivanka into flipping on her father, in order to make the civil probe a slam dunk? Or is James looking to use the criminal probe to put Ivanka in prison alongside her father? We’re starting to see just how ugly this is going to get for the Trump family.
