“National laughing stock”

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

What is the biggest joke in America right now? Answer — Josh Hawley. Hawley’s name has become a buzzword for “chicken.” And it’s no wonder. Millions have now viewed his run of shame, and very few aren’t laughing. Including his hometown paper.

“National laughing stock.” That is what the editorial board of the Kansas City Star labeled him. And they had other choice words for the cowardly Hawley.

“A signature Hawley issue is masculinity — as in how little of it American men seem to have these days.”

“Twitter didn’t see much virile bravado as he ran from the mob.”

“Shame clearly is not a motivating factor for any number of Republicans still caught up in Trumpworld.”

“Hawley has never apologized for attempting to reinstall a man who everyone around him knew had lost the election.”

The Hawley case is a fascinating case of self-sabotage. This is a guy who torpedoed any level of respect he may have been able to garner. I often marvel at how so many politicians appear clueless about how to market themselves.

Hawley is not backing down. In fact, he is digging in, promising he will never “run” from Democrats. The man still — after he’s become a national joke — he STILL doesn’t get it. He’s oblivious.

If Hawley would show a bit of humility and apologize, things perhaps might get (a little) better for him. But shame is not an emotion any Republican seems to ever have experienced. Likewise, humility appears to also be a stranger to folks like Hawley.

The ridicule and the mocking are a small price for Hawley to pay. I believe there is a case to be made for charges to be brought against Hawley. Al Franken appears to believe this as well, as he mentioned it on MSNBC.

The fact is Hawley poured gasoline on the insurrection and then took a match to it. And THEN — when confronted with the tragic results of what his actions had done — he ran like the babbling little chicken he is.

Hawley “aided and abetted.” For me, there is absolutely no question about that. He aided and abetted the insurrection, and though he may attempt to run from himself and his own sins, we, the people, will never let him forget them.
