Nancy Pelosi knows something we don’t

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

On Monday, House Democrats held yet another televised impeachment hearing. It was procedurally important – the House Intelligence Committee was presenting its findings to the House Judiciary Committee – but no new evidentiary ground was covered. It didn’t appear that anyone involved was in a hurry. But now it turns out something is afoot, and things are about to move very quickly.

Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi and her colleagues are suddenly planning to unveil the specific articles of impeachment against Donald Trump at a press conference on Tuesday morning, according to Politico. This is remarkably quick, considering we just had a hearing on Monday. Democratic Congressman David Cicilline says that the House Judiciary Committee is planning to work through the night on Monday in order to make sure the articles are ready to go by Tuesday morning. This is all so that the committee can ratify the articles this week and the full House can vote to impeach Trump next week.

The question, of course, is why the sudden hurry. The House impeachment process has been going on for months. There’s no formal deadline when it comes to completing the process; the House can take as long as it wants. Yet Nancy Pelosi has now decided that she wants to hurry up and get these articles of impeachment voted on as soon as possible. The question is why.

The truth is, we really don’t know. We don’t even know if the articles of impeachment being introduced on Tuesday will end up being the only ones. We don’t know if Nancy Pelosi is trying to hurry up and conclude the House impeachment process as quickly as possible, or if she simply wants to cement Trump’s impeachment before the holidays and then take another go at him on additional articles after the holidays. We’ll soon find out. But for now she knows something we don’t.
