Nancy Pelosi has had enough of this crap
Yesterday, Jerry Nadler and his House Judiciary Committee used a court filing to initiate the impeachment process against Donald Trump. There’s no way Nadler would have done it without Pelosi’s tacit approval, so now we know that Pelosi is finally on board with getting the impeachment ball rolling. Today, after Trump took things fast in an ugly direction, Pelosi dropped the hammer on him.
Donald Trump apparently decided that his best response to the impeachment inquiry was to create a racist distraction. The House Judiciary Committee is run by Nadler, who’s white, so Trump instead decided to attack Elijah Cummings, the head of the House Oversight Committee, who’s black. Trump said horribly racist and stereotypical things about Cummings’ hometown of Baltimore, prompting Pelosi to step in.
Nancy Pelosi didn’t mince words as she flat out called Donald Trump a racist: “[Elijah Cummings] is a champion in the Congress and the country for civil rights and economic justice, a beloved leader in Baltimore, and deeply valued colleague. We all reject racist attacks against him and support his steadfast leadership.” She then added the hashtag “Elijah Cummings is a Patriot.”
Meanwhile, someone on Donald Trump’s team has apparently told him that he should go ahead and attack Jerry Nadler and the House Judiciary Committee as well, if only to cover his bases. Trump has since falsely claimed that he fully cooperated with the committee’s investigation, prompting Nadler to point out on Twitter that Trump is illegally withholding Mueller grand jury data, and that Trump is illegally blocking Don McGahn from testifying about Trump’s crimes.
