The real reason Robert Mueller is trying to keep the identity of the mystery Trump-Russia company a secret
Back when we all first learned that Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s long-running and super-secret court battle was with a foreign government-owned company that was trying to dodge a Trump-Russia subpoena, Palmer Report pointed out that it logically had to be Mueller – and not the company itself – who was demanding all the secrecy. Now that’s finally being confirmed, leading to the larger question of why Mueller is trying to keep the company’s identity a secret.
Palmer Report explained awhile back that there was simply no way the U.S. Court of Appeals, let alone the Supreme Court, would bend over backward to keep this company’s identity under wraps if it were merely the company itself trying to avoid bad publicity. The only way the courts would go along with this request for secrecy was if it was coming from Mueller. Sure enough, Politico is now reporting that it is in fact Mueller, and not the company, who’s been arguing for secrecy. But why?
For one thing, Robert Mueller generally likes to keep everything he’s doing under wraps. But he’s sent subpoenas to the likes of Deutsche Bank that have been in plain sight. And he’s let plenty of Trump-Russia details surface in his indictments of various people. When it comes to this one mystery company, he’s gone to lengths to keep it all secret that are unusual even by his standards.
The most logical conclusion is that Robert Mueller doesn’t want the public to know the identity of the company because he doesn’t want Donald Trump to figure out that he’s twisting the company’s arm to turn over evidence against Trump. It’s not as if Trump can’t piece it together on his own, based on what little has publicly surfaced and what he knows he’s guilty of. But we keep seeing that Trump is pretty well insulated and cut off from real news. So until the name of this company gets plastered in the headlines, there’s a good chance Trump won’t know Mueller is targeting the company.
Once that happens, Donald Trump could belatedly try to use the presidency to put pressure on this company to keep fighting the subpoena at all costs. We’ve seen him post plenty of tweets aimed at harming major companies, just because they weren’t willing to play along with his personal agenda. Imagine how far Trump might go to try to punish this mystery company if he figures out they’re about to turn over evidence that could help send him to prison. No wonder Mueller would rather keep it secret for as long as possible.
