Remember Republican Congressman Dana Rohrabacher? You know, the guy Republican Congressman Kevin McCarthy whispered about to a group of Republicans, including Republican Speaker of the House, Paul Ryan? “There’s two people I think Putin pays: Rohrabacher and Trump. Swear to God.” Paul Ryan ended the huddle with, “No leaks. This is how we know we’re a real family here.” Remember that? Well, Robert Mueller remembers.

In his atomic bomb of a Manafort sentencing memo, Mueller and his team have responsibly redacted the names of those who are not part of the investigation. So guess whose name is not redacted? You got it. In fact, if we count, we see Rohrabacher’s name spelled out on multiple pages of the memo, such as pages 160 and 163 where Mueller details “Outreach to Congressman Rohrabacher.” Hmmm. Curiouser and curiouser.

Sure this could mean nothing. Rohrabacher’s visits to WikiLeaks’ Julian Assange in London could mean nothing. The photos of Congressman Dana Rohrabacher taken outside the Ecuadorean embassy with a guy flashing the White Power sign could mean nothing. His love of all things Putin could mean nothing. Just circumstantial, right?

Let’s go to the fact that numerous people are convicted on circumstantial evidence alone. But let’s also go to the fact that Mueller doesn’t have to infer guilt. He has significant evidence. Real evidence. Signals intelligence from not just U.S. sources but the Five Eyes nations and other of our allies. Mueller’s not going to irresponsibly smear a United States Congressman. He’s mentioning Rohrabacher because he’s an integral part of the investigation. Now we just have to wait to see what that investigation has revealed with the facts.

By the way, I have to say this from a professional point-of-view: for those of you who don’t know what it’s like to write an 800-page document, I can assure you, I do. And I have to tell you, the writer needs one helluva plot to type that many pages. This tome of a memo is going to be a doozy when the redactions are finally revealed. Our grandchildren will be studying this.
