MSNBC takes heat for latest John Bolton debacle
MSNBC’s willingness to keep booking a discredited clown like John Bolton, as if he were a respectable foreign policy expert, is a reminder that the media is only in this for the ratings – and not to inform you about anything. Everything about the media needs to change.
There is merit to putting failed political figures on the air so they can provide context for how their failures apply to the current situation. And there is arguably some merit to giving dishonest political figures occasional airtime if you’re doing it specifically to push back against them and put them on the spot about their lies.
But none of that describes what MSNBC keeps doing with John Bolton, or what ABC keeps doing with Chris Christie, and so on. MSNBC, and the mainstream media in general, must to better. The good news is that so many people on social media are pushing back against this kind of nonsense, it proves that audiences are indeed smarter and more discerning than TV news outlets give them credit for. “John Bolton” was trending on Twitter today for a reason, and not for a positive one.
