MOTIVE

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

It is not always necessary in court to show motive. Evidence is what plays a key role. That does not mean many do not wonder. It doesn’t matter what the crime is — every criminal has a motive. So what is Donald Trump’s?

This, of course, is the million-dollar question; It’s the question that many are speculating on. Why did he do it? All have theories. My theory is not confined to the SINGULAR. Sometimes, it is not a singular motive. Sometimes all good motives come in the plural form.

So to answer the million-dollar question — and this is just speculative on my part — I think Trump has many motives. His hatred of anything authoritative is there, of course. Trump is, by and large, a rule breaker. He despises rules, believing they are not made for him. He thinks he lives above the letter of the law. Of course, Jack Smith has shown that he does not.

But of course, Trump would want to stick it to the Justice Department. And he’d make it a long and drawn out effort. He is a grifter at heart, and grifters get off on the thrill of the con. This is another reason, another motivation.

Trump loves to hoodwink. Perhaps, he really wanted to “play” the DOJ and thought he could. Motive Number Three is that Trump cannot resist playing the victim. He does it all day, every day. If there is a victim card to be played, Trump will play it. He’d be a lousy gambler.

And, of course, Trump likes to brag. Look at me — I’ve got classified documents! Few things please Trump more than showing off something he has that nobody else does. It’s the conceit in him.

Motive number five is a bit darker; it is more sinister. It concerns the documents themselves. And what was Trump planning to do with them? I have always believed there is no low too low for Donald Trump. PROFITING OFF the documents? Selling America’s secrets? I believe he would.

I think it, like I know there are seven days in a week. I know it like I know two plus two equals four. This is deep knowledge many of us have, yes? Trump has not one smidgen of conscience. Why would he NOT use the documents? For blackmail? For money? For plain old spite? Why wouldn’t he?

He has said he never does anything wrong — ever. So he would not be capable of expressing guilt or feeling it. I think the motive is a bit of all of the above and some factors I have not even considered. But the last motive I wrote about is the most dangerous. It is the last motive that had the capacity to bring about international calamity.
