Moscow Mitch

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

Mitch McConnell is not a popular politician. Yes, he won reelection, but Kentucky is one of the reddest states in the country. But most (sane) people despise Moscow Mitch. This is because Mitch is really a symbol of everything that is wrong in Washington.

Make no mistake, if corruption had human form, it would be Mitch. He is entrenched in so much sleaze, it’s like quicksand — it just keeps getting deeper. And McConnell knew this — and was also happy to brag about it. Moscow Mitch was speaking to supporters in Kentucky when he named his single greatest accomplishment — blocking Merrick Garland from becoming a Supreme Court Justice.

What a guy! “In my time as Majority leader,” Mitch said, “the single biggest decision I’ve ever made was actually a decision not to do something.”

“And that was to fill a supreme court vacancy created by the death of Justice Scalia during the 2016 election.”

It’s simply amazing, is it not? Some people are proud of helping starving children. For others, they’re proud of getting important legislation passed. Moscow Mitch is proud of — doing nothing. And these remarks really highlight the trouble Mitch has caused in his many years in the Senate. The toxicity of the highest court in the land can really be traced right back to McConnell.

He has, in all his years in the Senate, not one significant accomplishment to speak of, which is pretty amazing when one thinks about it. It is my hope that the Supreme Court can still be saved. If we expand our majority, we can do a lot. And you can bet, the first person to cry foul will be Mitch himself. But unlike the Kentucky Senator, we actually want a high-quality and non-corrupt court, free of Mudslinger Mitch’s influence. If we win in November, perhaps that’s what we’ll get.
