More good news for Kamala Harris
Donald Trump finally agreed to debate Kamala Harris on ABC on September 10. He has stumbled throughout the campaign since Harris became the presumption nominee. This may be his worst stumble. Everyone expects Harris to eat him alive, and few know that better than Jim Clyburn, who said: “He is in for an experience.” Clyburn appeared on MSNBC this past Saturday. Host Yamiche Alcindor recapped the polls and asked Clyburn about his sense of a path to victory for Harris. Clyburn said the path to victory is widening by the day. Clyburn also mentioned Florida, which has changed from “lean GOP” to “toss up.”
Clyburn seems to like Tim Walz as well. Clyburn went to Walz’s district after being invited and found that he and Walz have a lot in common. Clyburn said about Walz: “I saw in him a certain fundamental goodness that exists in every American. Tim is just an absolutely great person that you want to be around as often and as long as you possibly can be.” Clyburn said he doesn’t understand Trump’s criticisms of Walz, but he wishes Trump would go to Walz’s district and talk to people. Please. Trump doesn’t care about any of that. He has no intention of serving anyone other than, as Walz said, himself. Clyburn ended the interview by talking about the upcoming debate. He said that Trump has obviously not seen Harris in action in the Senate, and he hopes it will be a format where they can ask questions of each other. If it is, he said it will be “one good educational experience.”
Vice President Harris doesn’t need to do much to beat Trump other than the joy and excitement she is already bringing. Trump is doing a good job of beating himself. According to AlterNet, he has almost made it impossible to win Georgia. As he always does, instead of talking about his policies, he stood there and attacked people. He made a huge mistake in attacking Brian Kemp, who is liked by both Republicans and Democrats in Georgia. After Trump’s pathetic performance, Greg Bluestein of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution said that Republican activists and strategists said that they could tank his campaign if they so choose. Stephen Lawson, a GOP consultant, said: “We know exactly how this story ends. If he’s not running on the issues, he’s going to lose.” Long-time GOP strategist Ryan Mahoney referred to Trump’s behavior as “political suicide” and believes Trump has made it impossible for Republicans to win in November. That’s a good thing, though Harris doesn’t need their help.
Harris is dominating the polls, but her secret weapon is Tim Walz. Republicans seem to be totally stymied by how to defame Walz. They’ve tried to paint him as a far-left liberal, but that’s not working because it’s not true. Besides that, people love him. Former Obama political strategist David Axelrod said: “… [She] picked a Norman Rockwell painting sprung to life.” Victory is in the cards for Harris. She has now pulled ahead of Trump in the metric of who voters trust to handle the economy. Making history in November will be sweet.
