More confirmation that the DOJ is indeed criminally targeting Donald Trump
After the DOJ arrested the entire Oath Keepers leadership in January and flipped Roger Stone’s Oath Keeper driver, it immediately launched a January 6th grand jury targeting Trump world. The fact that much of this news has surfaced after the fact has fueled the false perception within the social media and cable news bubble that the DOJ is doing “nothing” or that it’s “too little to late.” But back in the real world, confirmation continues to surface that the DOJ is indeed criminally targeting Trump, has been for some time, and is going in deeper than anyone knew.
The latest confirmation comes in the form of a new CNN report which reveals that the DOJ has been targeting fake 2020 electors in Georgia. More to the point, the DOJ has been using grand jury subpoenas and FBI agents to grill these fake electors on what interactions they had with Donald Trump himself and/or Donald Trump’s associates.
This is crucial because it demonstrates that the DOJ isn’t just aiming for the low hanging fruit of indicting the fake electors; it’s attempting to connect their criminal actions to Donald Trump and Trump world. Criminal cases against “kingpins” like Trump are nearly always built by flipping people upward, so the eventual trial jury gets to hear Trump’s own co-conspirators testify about his guilt and his intent, so they’ll actually convict Trump.
Notably, this latest news is only coming to light because one of the FBI interviews was with would-be fake elector Patrick Gartland, who ended up dropping out. Because Gartland pulled out, he likely feels safe that he won’t end up being criminally charged as long as he cooperates. Accordingly, he’s decided to talk with CNN about it, whereas all the actual fake electors interviewed by the FBI are likely hunkered down working on their criminal defense strategies for if and when they’re indicted.
It’s the latest reminder that while the handful of details we’ve gotten about this DOJ Trump probe have generally been huge, they’ve only leaked to due to oddball circumstances such as Gartland deciding to talk to the media after talking with the FBI. Short of these specific leaks from specific individuals, we have no idea what all else is going on in this DOJ Trump probe. All we really know is that it’s certainly well ahead of what’s been leaking out, because most of what leaks out is only coming after the fact.
This is in addition to a separate DOJ criminal probe into Donald Trump for having taken classified documents with him on his way out of the presidency. That probe only came to light when it conflicted with a House document request, and the DOJ had to admit in writing that it was investigating the matter. If not for that conflict, this DOJ probe might not have come to light at all.
At this point we have confirmation that the DOJ has at least two different criminal investigations running into Donald Trump, that one of them has been ongoing for five months or more, and that both are well into the grand jury stage. How many more criminal probes does the DOJ have going against Donald Trump that simply haven’t leaked out publicly? Just how long have they been going on? In any case, so much for the false narrative that the “DOJ is doing nothing.” That kind of pundit talk has always been absurd, and now it’s clear that it’s outright fiction.
