Back when Georgia’s Republican candidate for Governor Brian Kemp first got caught trying to rig the election in his favor by blocking the voter registrations of minorities, Palmer Report pointed out two things. First, this was a big risk to take if Kemp thought he was going to win, so this was a sign that he feared he was going to lose to Democratic candidate Stacey Abrams. Second, this had the potential to backfire on him. It looks like that’s now happening in spades.

The polls in the Georgia Governor’s race have been close all along, but there have been no new polls conducted in that race since the voter registration scandal blew up in the media, so it’s difficult to track things that way. Instead, the most telling factor is the sheer number of people who are now trying to vote in that race, and who are trying to do so emphatically.

Early voting in the Georgia race has been through the roof thus far. Reports out of Cobb County are that early voters waited in line for hours on end, on the very first day of early in-person voting, because they wanted to make a point of voting that day instead of simply coming back the next day. And yes, the people turning out appear to largely be minorities, suggesting that this is a direct result of Brian Kemp’s attempt at taking away the voting rights of minorities.

Several legal heavyweights are now suing to get the voter registrations reinstated that were thrown out by Brian Kemp. The outcome in court will play a role in deciding the outcome of the Georgia election. But the sheer number of people now rushing to the polls to vote for Stacey Abrams is also going to play a major role in deciding the outcome. Kemp can’t block all of them from voting – and he’s unwittingly unleashed a monster against himself.
