Donald Trump’s worst nightmare is about to come true on Monday
Earlier today, Palmer Report explained how significant it was that House Democrats were suddenly asking a federal judge to speed up her ruling on whether Don McGahn must testify. This ruling, it if happens in time, will be huge – and it’ll impact far more than just McGahn. Now it turns out it’s indeed going to happen in time.
The judge has responded to House Democrats by confirming she plans to issue her ruling on Monday, according to report tonight from Bloomberg. That means we’re just six days away from a judge telling former White House Counsel Don McGahn that he must testify in the House impeachment hearings against Donald Trump. McGahn could then appeal the ruling if he’s truly trying to avoid testifying. But this isn’t about McGahn. It’s about John Bolton.
John Bolton has already publicly made clear, through his attorney, that he’s going to make his decision about whether to testify based on what the judge says in the McGahn case. Based on the judge’s comments in the hearings leading up to this ruling, it’s very likely she’ll rule that McGahn must testify. Even if McGahn does file an appeal, Bolton will have the legal cover he needs to testify. Bolton has surely already prepped for this, meaning he could testify as soon as House Democrats can fit him into the schedule.
We still think that Gordon Sondland could end up being the witness who takes Donald Trump down when he testifies tomorrow, if the erratic and self-contradicting Sondland finally and fully comes clean. But if not, we’re less than a week away from a judge giving John Bolton the ruling he wants – and Bolton’s testimony could completely obliterate Trump.
