The Republicans’ attempt at punishing Mitt Romney just totally blew up in their faces

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

Based on the growing number of House and Senate Republicans who are quarantining themselves after having been potentially exposed to the coronavirus at the conservative CPAC conference, it’s now clear that just about everyone who attended is at risk. We wouldn’t wish this virus on anyone, but there’s an irony that after Donald Trump claimed this was all a hoax, it’s hitting members of his own party the hardest. Here’s the kicker.

There was one high profile Republican politician who controversially wasn’t at CPAC. Remember when Senator Mitt Romney voted to convict and remove Donald Trump from office? CPAC retaliated against Romney by banning him from this year’s conference. This was supposed to be a punishment, but it directly resulted in Romney not getting exposed to the coronavirus during the event.

So there you have it. Mitt Romney appears to be in good overall health, but he’s in his seventies, and he would have had a harder time fighting off the coronavirus than some of these younger Republicans who are under quarantine. By trying to punish Romney, the Republicans may have unwittingly ended up saving his life.
