Senator Mitt Romney and Senator Ben Sasse both rip Donald Trump a new one

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

I’m not much of a Mitt Romney fan. I appreciate that he drew the line at treason and voted to convict and remove Trump during impeachment. But Romney has been in lockstep with Trump in confirming unqualified extremist judges and other shameful things. That said, Romney is genuinely coming out swinging at Trump tonight. For that matter, so is Republican Senator Ben Sasse.

Romney released this statement tonight about Trump: “Having failed to make even a plausible case of widespread fraud or conspiracy before any court of law, the President has now resorted to overt pressure on state and local officials to subvert the will of the people and overturn the election. It is difficult to imagine a worse, more undemocratic action by a sitting American President.” Ben Sasse also issued a lengthy statement condemning what Donald Trump is doing.

To be as clear as possible, Trump’s antics aren’t going anywhere. State legislatures magically overthrowing the election result is simply not a real thing. Trump is even privately admitting that he knows it’s over, and that he’s just screwing with us on his way out the door. But these statements from Mitt Romney and Ben Sasse are what we should be seeing from every Republican in office. We have a feeling Trump may have finally shoved more Republicans into clamping down on his nonsense, if only because he’s making his party look so bad, and some of them want to still have a future after Trump is gone.
