With Donald Trump’s chances of reelection shrinking, Mitch McConnell knows he’s facing the very real possibility that his streak of confirming corrupt extremist right wing judges will soon end. President Joe Biden certainly isn’t going to nominate the kinds of judges McConnell wants. For that matter, McConnell is in some danger of losing the Senate majority entirely.

So it’s not surprising to see that, even in the midst of a pandemic, Mitch McConnell is now going into overdrive to finish the job of confirming as many unfit judges as possible. After all, it’s what his wealthy conservative donors are paying him to do. The thing is, while McConnell usually has a sense just how much or little corruption he can get away with in any given moment and still survive, he may have just stepped in it.

The chief judge of the U.S. Court of Appeals is now attempting to launch a formal investigation into whether Mitch McConnell forced a sitting judge to retire early, just so he could confirm the massively unfit Justin Walker in his place. This is according to the New York Times. So what does this mean for McConnell? That’s tough to say, because there’s so little precedent for something like this. But realistically, McConnell now has to decide whether to push forward with the Walker nomination and risk whatever consequences might come of this judicial investigation, or scuttle the Walker nomination in the hope of making it all go away.

Mitch McConnell has a history of usually pulling back whenever one of his dastardly schemes is at risk of blowing up in his face, instead keeping his powder dry so he can use it on the corrupt schemes he really wants to accomplish. But with McConnell potentially running out of time thanks to the Trump implosion, we’ll see if he pushes forward with this stunt, and where the judicial investigation might go.
