Mike Pence is already whistling defeat
Mike Pence has not officially entered the 2024 presidential race yet but is likely preparing for his big announcement. Unfortunately, Mike Pence is a man lost at sea, entangled in watery debris, and at least at this point, he can’t seem to free himself long enough to be taken seriously.
As Donald Trump’s indictment looms closer, Pence’s spine seems to grow slightly. One imagines that Pence will feel great freedom when his nemesis is indicted. Only nothing he does will ever be enough. Here’s why. Pence is in the middle of dark waters, but he doesn’t have a paddle OR a life jacket. He has no lane to run in. All he has is the fact that he followed the rules on January sixth.
And Maga — his base — hates him for it. So it stands to reason Pence would try and paddle over to the middle. Only he can’t. His views are well known. The man wants a national abortion ban for crying out loud! His world views are not the types to attract other democrats or independents.
So, as Pence struggles against the rip tides, he looks rather desperate. This might be why Pence accused Donald Trump of not being a true Christian. It happened at the annual spring dinner of the Gridiron club.
Pence explained that he at one time had invited trump to bible study. He also hinted that trump never reads the bible. Can you hear the winds of defeat whistling? This is a losing strategy if I ever see one.
Trump’s supporters don’t care if he reads the bible. I’d argue they — most of them — probably know he doesn’t. But they don’t CARE, Mikey. If they did, he’d never have been elected in the first place.
I have a suggestion for Pence. He should come out and condemn Trump as a traitor and a criminal. No, it might not get him the nomination. But he’s not going to be the nominee anyway. What such a declaration WOULD do, is free him. It would free his soul from its watery alliance with Maga because he knows — of course, Pence knows — that Donald Trump is wicked.
The truth shall set you free, Mike Pence. If you were to make such a statement, no, you wouldn’t be the nominee.
But you’d be able to look at yourself in the mirror with pride. Right now, you are flailing. You should allow your frantic ” what should I do” thoughts to recede and reach out to grasp the ocean’s arm, throwing away your torturous thoughts and allowing honesty to touch your shores. Alas, this is one piece of advice that has likely already drifted too far from Pence.
