Mike Johnson just stepped in it big time, and now he’s hitting the panic button

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

Democrats have been gaining headway of late by insisting that Donald Trump and the Republicans will repeal the CHIPS Act if they take power, so you’d think Trump and the Republicans would at least try to push back against this. Instead “Speaker” Mike Johnson took a question about the issue today and stated that he and Trump will indeed repeal the CHIPS Act. Oops.

Johnson must have realized how big of a mistake this was, because almost immediately thereafter, his people put out a statement claiming that Johnson only gave that answer because he had misheard the question. No really, this is what they’re going with.

This prompted the reporter who asked the question to push back by tweeting a photo of just how close he had been standing to Johnson when the exchange happened, making clear that Johnson couldn’t have “misheard” him.

So now Kamala Harris and the Democrats get to spend these final few days using Mike Johnson’s own words against Trump and the various House Republican candidates. Trump and his people just keep screwing up and giving us more to work with.
