Mike Johnson just gave away that he has no idea what he’s doing

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

For a short time, the media was propping up Mike Johnson as the latest all-powerful villain, following in the footsteps of Dick Cheney and Mike Pence. The problem is, while nearly all of Johnson’s views are backwards and despicable, he’s even more inept than those other two. The media tried normalizing him for a short time – but of course they didn’t have a whole lot of success there either. The problem is that the GOP openly despises the idea of functional government, so they don’t really have a lot of up and coming talent that knows or cares about how it works. As low as the bar is, there’s almost something legendary about how wildly incompetent Mike Johnson is as speaker, and he just keeps proving it further each day.

We at Palmer Report knew that bringing up Jan 6 at all in 2023 would go disastrously for Republicans, because it’s just another reminder that most of them sat idly by when the president of their own party tried to overthrow the government. Heeding the cries of right wing media to release all of the footage of Jan 6 – much of which is unavailable to the public for good reason as some of the security cam footage reveals areas of the Capitol that are closed off to the public. Since the release has also resulted in more people being charged for participating in the Jan 6 insurrection, Johnson agreed to having faces be blurred out in the new footage that mostly shows Capitol police trying to de-escalate the situation.

This begs a pretty obvious question: If the Jan 6 tourists are in fact as innocent and misunderstood as right wing pundits and conspiracy theorists like to claim, then why blur their faces? It makes even less sense if you try to mix it in with any of the ridiculous “false flag” theories they have spreading on social media right now. We’re likely weeks away from a special election and the GOP has decided to bring up one of the issues that nearly kept them retaking the House a year ago.
