Warnock and Ossoff: where the Georgia Senate runoff races stand at midnight eastern time
As the night goes on, things continue to look better and better for Raphael Warnock and Jon Ossoff in the Georgia senate runoff races. At this point it appears they’re both very likely to win.
Warnock has now pulled ahead by 34,000 votes, and considering that most of the remaining uncounted votes are in Democratic-leaning counties, it seems a given that Warnock will retain the lead and pull further ahead. In fact Decision Desk HQ and the Cook Political Report have now called the race for Warnock, though no major TV networks or newspapers have called the race.
Ossoff is now behind by about 4,000 votes, but with most of the remaining ones being in Democratic-leaning counties, Ossoff appears to be very much on track to win. The New York Times is now giving both Warnock and Ossoff a greater than 95% probability of winning. The Cook Political Report just now called the race for Ossoff.
It’s still not time to pop the champagne quite yet, but it’s okay to be hopeful now. There’s no way to predict when it’ll become 100% clear to us that Warnock and Ossoff have both won. There’s also no way to predict how long it’ll take the major media outlets to make their calls; that might not happen until tomorrow. But so far this night is very much going like the Democrats would have hoped.
