Remember those five minutes when Acting White House Chief of Staff Mick Mulvaney cared so much about the House impeachment inquiry subpoena he’d received, he tried to attach his name to a dormant court case involving John Bolton’s sidekick Charles Kupperman? If it didn’t make any sense to you, that’s because it didn’t make any sense, period.

We think Mick Mulvaney was trying, in a bizarre and stupid manner, to try to delay or dissuade John Bolton from testifying. That seemed to be confirmed when Kupperman’s lawyer (who also represents Bolton) made a court filing yesterday, essentially telling Mulvaney to take a hike.

Mulvaney then agreed to back off, and announced yesterday that he would be filing his own separate court case over his subpoena. At the time, Palmer Report concluded that Mulvaney was only doing this to save face, and that his case would eventually go away quietly. Now it turns out Mulvaney has already decided to dispense with filing his own case, which means he’s entirely removed from the process.

Again, we don’t know precisely what this idiot Mick Mulvaney was trying do to. But that’s because he had no idea what he was trying to do, either. This serves as a reminder that when Donald Trump’s henchmen try desperate stunts like this, most of the time there’s no rhyme or reason behind it, and it goes nowhere. If you try too hard to look for the logic in what Trump’s goons are doing, you might overlook the fact that there simply is no logic.
