Joe Biden closing the gap in Michigan [Updated]
After hours and hours of seeing “red mirage” numbers in the midwest which skewed heavily toward in-person and same-day voting and therefore artificially favored Donald Trump, we’re finally seeing the cavalry arrive.
The big news is that as of 5:00am eastern time, Joe Biden has pulled ahead in Wisconsin by about 18,500 votes. This doesn’t mean Biden will win for sure; it’s believed that about 4% of the votes are still outstanding. But based on demographics we expect Biden will fare well in the remaining uncounted votes.
If Biden wins Wisconsin (and hangs onto his lead in Nevada), he’ll only need to win one more state out of Michigan Pennsylvania, and Georgia. So the good news for Biden is that he’s closing the gap in Michigan as the night goes on.
As of 4:59am, Joe Biden was behind in Michigan by 74,000 votes. As of 5:04am, Biden is behind in Michigan by 70,000 votes. Based on the much larger gap that Biden closed in Wisconsin when the final voting dump came in, there is reason to believe Biden can win Michigan as well. But Michigan says it may not have final results until noon. Update, 5:50am: Decision Desk has now drastically revised its Michigan numbers due to an apparent typo, and now Trump is ahead by 198,000 votes. That said, with Detroit and other Democratic strongholds yet to come in, Biden still has a good shot in Michigan.
