Michigan Democrat comes out swinging against lunatic Republicans
As midterm season approaches, some in the media have accused the GOP of running with no clear agenda – just continuing to brand themselves as the party of Trump, which is the exact same strategy they ran on back in 2020 with mixed results. The fact is that the GOP’s agenda is just one that it can’t quite say aloud – but it’s doing a good job of telling us exactly what it stands for anyway – as a record number of laws that discriminate against LGBTQ individuals are being signed all over the country and prominent Republican politicians are targeting school curriculum to ban any topics that conflict with their own view of how America should be.
Fortunately, a state senator from Michigan, Sen. Mallory McMorrow showed exactly how we should respond to the culture war the Republicans are determined to use in order to divide America and gave a powerful speech on the floor – blasting a Republican senator who accused her of being a “groomer.” “Hate wins when people like me stand by and let it happen. I won’t.” said McMorrow. She wasn’t finished though – and she prepared to thoroughly call out her colleague on what he was hoping to accomplish: “I’m the biggest threat to your hollow, hateful scheme. Because you can’t claim that you’re targeting marginalized kids in the name of “parental rights” if another parent is standing up and saying no.”
The bigotry of the GOP is out in the open right now and the only way to fight it is to not just vote against them, but to call it for what it is and force it back into hiding. The homophobic behavior of the GOP is a demonstration of exactly why they shouldn’t be trusted with power. It’s up to us to tell the truth about what laws like Florida’s “don’t say gay” bill and make a clear contrast with the Democratic Party being the party that governs for all Americans while forcing the GOP to find some new way to rationalize their prejudices.
