Michigan Board of Canvassers now appears set to certify Joe Biden’s victory
In today’s Michigan Board of State Canvassers meeting, Republican board member Aaron Van Langevelde now very much sounds like he’ll vote to certify. His vote will put it over the top. Final vote should be either 4-0 or 3-1, depending on whether Trump stooge Norm Shinkle wants to face criminal charges by casting a lone “no” vote. Either way it’ll be certified. It doesn’t have to be unanimous.
If you want to wait until the certification vote is actually cast before feeling safe about it, that’s totally understandable. But every expert watching this meeting agrees that it’s now a done deal, after Van Langevelde’s emphatic remarks.
Even if it had gone 2-2, the courts would have automatically overruled it. Trump’s only play here was to very slightly delay the certification. He always had literally zero chance of magically stealing Michigan’s electoral votes.
Can’t stress enough that Joe Biden’s electoral votes in Michigan were never, ever, ever in jeopardy. Today’s hearing was merely a matter of whether any of Trump’s goons were willing to face criminal charges just to very slightly drag out Trump’s Michigan loss. If any pundit portrayed the electoral votes as being in jeopardy, they were either being alarmist or manipulative. Days like today are a good opportunity to figure out who’s trying to bait you.
