Michelle Obama pushes back against Donald Trump

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

After the House Judiciary Committee used a court filing to open an impeachment inquiry into Donald Trump, he turned around and launched a brutal, unhinged, and mentally unstable racist attack on Congressman Elijah Cummings and the city of Baltimore. The distraction ended up backfiring, as Trump took his racism so far, it became a scandal of its own.

In the hours since Donald Trump began firing off one racist tweet about Elijah Cummings and his hometown of Baltimore after another, we’ve seen pushback across the board. Everyone from the Speaker of the House on down has called Trump out for his racism. Mainstream media outlets have begun accurately using the word “racist” to describe Trump’s tweets, a word they sometimes hesitate to use. Now former First Lady Michelle Obama has piled on as well.

No, Michelle Obama didn’t attack Donald Trump, or even invoke his name. Instead, she showed the kind of pointed yet elegant class she’s always shown. She posted this tweet: “On #NationalDanceDay, I’m shouting out the Lethal Ladies, a Baltimore STEP team who I saw perform back in 2017. I’m so proud of you all—and everyone who’s dancing today!”

On first glance, the tweet didn’t appear to have anything to do with Donald Trump. It was National Dance Day, after all. But Michelle Obama made a point of praising residents of Baltimore when she could have chosen dancers from just about locale. In so doing, she found a way to push back against Trump’s racist attack on the city of Baltimore in subtle and classy, yet unmistakeable fashion.
