Donald Trump is about to get some bad news from Michael Flynn
Donald Trump has spent the past few days frantically escalating his efforts at creating one distraction after another, while acting more incoherently frazzled than ever, and there has to be a reason for it. He thinks something bad for him is about to surface that we don’t know yet know about. But we doubt he’s even aware of the bad news that he’s about to get from his former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn.
The last we heard about the Flynn storyline, Special Counsel Robert Mueller was asking the judge to delay Flynn’s sentencing by another two months. That was two months ago. According to an older CNN article, Mueller is supposed to make his updated filing about Flynn on this Friday, June 29th. There are two ways this can go, and either of them will be ill-timed bad news for Trump.
The first possibility is that Mueller has gotten everything he needs from Michael Flynn, and he refers him for sentencing. This would be bad for Trump because it would mean that Flynn would be reporting to prison for a multi-year sentence, even as Trump is trying harder than ever to sell the fantasy that the Trump-Russia investigation is a witch hunt. The second possibility is that Mueller asks for more time before Flynn’s sentencing. If this is the case, then it means Flynn is still proving useful as a cooperating witness, long after he initially spilled his guts – meaning that Flynn must truly have the goods against Trump.
We’ll see what comes of this on Friday. But one way or the other, long after casual observers forgot that Michael Flynn played a key role in Donald Trump’s treasonous Russia scandal, we’re about to see Flynn thrust back into the headlines in a big way. Moreover, because Trump doesn’t do his homework and is usually a step behind on these kinds of things, this will likely catch him off guard on Friday.
