Michael Cohen slams “dumbest a**hole” Mark Meadows

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

Michael Cohen has recently been released from home confinement, meaning he’s become a free man just in time to start seeing others in Trump world start getting locked up. Longtime Trump strategist Steve Bannon was recently arrested, and now Trump White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows has abruptly broken off his cooperation with the January 6th Committee in a way that’ll ensure he also gets indicted and arrested.

Earlier today we explained that Meadows had taken a particularly dumb approach, giving important evidence to the committee and getting nothing in return, and still managing to get himself set up for indictment and prison. Now it turns out Michael Cohen agrees with us. His response to Meadows’ about face: “Like I previously stated, the dumbest ASSHOLE on The Hill!”

Keep in mind that Mark Meadows is reportedly a target of Fulton County Georgia District Attorney Fani Willis’ criminal probe into Trump 2020 election tampering, which is already in the grand jury stage. If Meadows cooperates with the January 6th Committee, he risks making it easier for Georgia to indict and convict him for election tampering. But by not cooperating with the committee, Meadows will end up indicted and convicted for contempt.

This is why we still suspect Meadows may end up pleading the fifth to the January 6th Committee at some point. It’s not that Meadows is necessarily trying to protect Trump, so much as he’s trying to protect himself. But the Fifth Amendment isn’t a magic wand either. Pleading it would all but ensure that Meadows will end up indicted for the crimes he’s pleading the fifth to.

If Meadows were smart, he’d have his lawyers cut a cooperating plea deal with the Department of Justice and the Fulton County DA, agreeing to give up Donald Trump and everyone else involved, in exchange for his own immunity or leniency. But as Michael Cohen said, Meadows is the opposite of smart.
